In honor of wrapping up the Jan/Feb issue the day before Thanksgiving, I (with the help of my lovely assistant, C) baked 2 batches of Schnetka, a German pastry I was illustrating for the issue. I got too curious and wound up offering to make some for everyone in the office. I was so stressed about the recipe (the blogger who supplied the recipe wasn’t exactly thorough), but it turns out they were delicious. Especially heated up a smidge. Someone else ended up bringing pineapple/cherry cobbler that day as well (you better believe I got that recipe before I left!) so wow what a great day. (And night for those of you who know what I’m referring to.. lol)
Thanksgiving started off with sleeping in. As a general rule to any holiday break, in our house one must sleep in as late as possible. This rule is paramount to all others. Instead of a turkey this year C wanted to make Boeuf Bourguignon which was an excellent choice! Personally, the hullabaloo over a turkey (and how much is left after the main meal) was not very appealing to either of us. We had great company over and enjoyed the afternoon and evening together with great food, a fire, and movies.
I’ve never understood Black Friday. To the rest of the world, the US is crazy and I have to agree with this. However, staying up until midnight to take advantage of some online shopping is another thing entirely. Unfortunately, Forever 21 didn’t have a reasonable sale this year. 50% off sale prices. Naturally, everything I wanted to purchase was regular price. I still hate Black Friday.
I cannot get enough of this song.
“Katie:*continues to talk about cats and how wonderful they are for the next 4 hours*
